Buttocks (the song) is written and performed by John Dooley. John was a poet, a trickster, a lover of the nastier things in life. He, my mom, and I lived together as a family for 10 years. He passed away in 2019 just months after I moved to New York for school. I have my memories but mostly I long for the awkwardness of our bodies sharing space. For the pleasure and the eventual nagging of one another’s traits on the other. The pants are my small antidote. I put on my Buttocks and I am jolted from memory into my body. Like being in a room with John, my experience fluctuates between embarrassing and thrilling.
